I KEEP hearing the words openness and honesty when reading the few details released about the latest Academy proposal for Portland schools, yet the reality is far from it. At the very least parents and members of the community should have been given the opportunity to see exactly what the proposal entails, before the schools decided whether to follow the Academy vision, especially as schools are supposed to belong to all the parents and the whole community, not the headteachers and governors.

The revised proposal is so far from the original promises and I feel a ballot should have been organised. Whether you are a supporter of the Academy or not I urge everyone to write to their councillors, MP, schools and governors.

Please take the time to do this, so that we make sure we all know what we are letting ourselves in for. I fear before long that if you don’t like what you’re getting there will be little, if anything, that anyone can do to stop it.
