A MUM has launched a new business in memory of her late daughter.

Sue Nixon has set up a Weymouth dress shop that she has named after her daughter Robyn Nixon, who took her own life at the age of 15.

Robyn’s Robes is based at the back of the Baby Dribbles shop in Great George Street.

It stocks occasion dresses such as prom dresses, wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses.

When Robyn was a little girl, Sue said she would make dresses for her and sew the label ‘Robyn’s Rags’ inside.

Sue, who co-owns the business with Trevor Jarman, said Robyn created many dress designs and would have been ‘over the moon’ if she knew about the new business.

Sue said she came up with the idea on her birthday on a day trip to Southampton.

She added: “It’s like living Robyn’s dream for her.

“I feel that Robyn has been my guiding star. She would have been over the moon if she knew about this.”

Family and friends were present for the launch of the business, with drinks and a buffet to celebrate the shop’s official opening.

Wyke Regis resident Sue said that Robyn had ambitions of owning a dress shop when she grew up.

She added: “Robyn’s designs were quite funky and quirky.

“The shop has some dresses with Robyn in mind.

“It’s been quite a long journey. I can’t think of a better way for me as Robyn’s mum and her dad to do something because we love her so much. I know that Robyn is guiding us through it.”

Robyn’s Robes sells dresses priced between £189 and £1,000 and a variety of accessories.

Sue said: “I’m trying to keep my prices low so that I make minimum profits.

“For me it’s not about selling lots of dresses but about making it successful for Robyn.”

The shop is open from 10am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday.
