THE Weymouth family of X Factor star Perrie Edwards kept their phones on ‘constant redial’ to keep her in Britain’s biggest talent contest.

Perrie’s girl band Rhythmix survived another week of public voting after a Rock Night-themed performance.

They are now among the 10 remaining contestants on the ITV primetime show.

Former Radipole Primary School pupil Perrie, who was named after Steve Perry from rock band Journey, and her band mates Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson gave a rock twist to two pop songs Kesha’s Tik Tok and Salt ’n’ Pepa’s Push It.

But Rhythmix’s song choice led to the judges warring over whether it was rock enough.

Perrie, 18, who now lives in Newcastle but visits the borough regularly to see family, said: “There was a bit of a fight going on with the panel there.”

The budding popstars celebrated still being in the competition by partying at Whisky Mist in Mayfair, London with mentor Tulisa Contostavlos and the only other remaining group – The Risk.

In Weymouth, Perrie’s family gathered at her auntie Nancy Hemmings house to watch the live performance.

Her cousin Georgia said: “We had a girl’s night on Saturday to watch it. All the girls of the family including my cousins, auntie and mum stayed in, while my nan Nancy Hogg and Perrie’s mum Debbie Dufty went to London to be in the audience.

“All of us had our phones on constant redial.”

She added: “We were all so nervous because when they came on stage they looked really nervous.

“We were so excited when they got through – I’m going to be keeping my fingers crossed every week.

“It’s worrying because it just seems like anyone can go at the moment.”

Georgia said claims of bullying behind the scenes by judges Tulisa and Louis Walsh, regarding contestant Misha B were worrying.

Misha, who has emerged as one of the favourites to win this year’s X Factor, denied that she had ever bullied anyone on the show.

Georgia added: “It was worrying when Tulisa said on Saturday night that it involved one of her contestants, because we know how soft Perrie is, she’s so young for her years.

“But she seems to be getting on fine, Misha seems to be a bit funny according to the tabloids but you never know what to believe.”

The family disbanded to watch the live results separately on Sunday night but Georgia said that as soon as the announcement was made there was a flurry of phone calls.

She added: “As soon as Rhythmix got through the phones all went off, everyone was phoning each other. It’s all really exciting.”
