“YOU will be brought to justice” – that’s Dorset Police’s message to arsonists who torched five vehicles in Weymouth.

Arsonists used flammable liquid to set light to four cars in Beverley Road and Pemberton Close at Littlemoor just after 10pm on Sunday night.

The cars torched were a red Ford Transit van and a green Ford Focus in Pemberton Close and a blue Nissan Almera and a white Vauxhall Combo van in Beverley Road.

At 10.30pm a van that had been stolen from Littlemoor was found on fire in Warmwell Road, Crossways.

The street was left blackened and charred from the attacks.

One Littlemoor resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s quite shocking, it makes you feel nervous.”

Sergeant Neil Wood, of Weymouth and Portland police said that there would be an increased police presence on the streets and that the perpetrators would be ‘brought to justice’.

He said: “We are determined to catch this person or persons. We are doing everything we can to do that.

“People will see police officers on patrol in the area to reassure the community of Littlemoor, so that people can see we are out there looking for them and we will get them.”

He added: “We are doing a full investigation and we are determined to bring these people to justice.”

The Littlemoor Safer Neighbourhood Team was on the streets yesterday looking for witnesses. PCSO Debbie Oswald-Watson said: “We are just stepping up patrols in the area because of this incident and will continue to do so.”

Dorset Fire and Rescue service said that arson ‘puts lives at risk’.

A spokesman for the service said: “Arson is a very dangerous act and it can take us away from other serious incidents.”

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service sent two Weymouth fire crews to the scene at Beverly Road where two cars were on fire.

The spokesman added: “The fires were extinguished using hose reel jets. There were two other vehicles approximately 100m away from the two original ones involved in fire and these were also extinguished.”

Weymouth and Portland Borough Councillor for Little-moor Mark Tewkesbury said the attacks were ‘saddening’.

He added: “It’s quite shocking to hear, especially for the people who rely on their cars for their livelihoods and getting to and from work.”

Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward and call 101 and ask to speak to investigating officer Detective Sergeant Luke Willcock.
