FORMER Weymouth schoolgirl Perrie Edwards and her band mates have been trying to come up with a new band name ahead of tomorrow’s X Factor TV show.

Perrie’s mum Debbie Dufty said the girls, who have been performing under the name of Rhythmix, still haven’t made a decision on their new moniker.

The group was forced to change its name after bosses at Kent-based children’s charity Rhythmix penned an open letter to X-Factor’s Simon Cowell.

The charity chiefs warned the name clash meant that the charity had to take legal action to ensure it can still exist. Simon Cowell then relented and agreed that the band would find a new name.

Debbie said: “The band is having talks about a new name. They are making decisions about the name.

“They’ve left messages on Twitter to see if their fans can come up with names.”

Although this is the first time an X Factor act has had to come up with a new name, Debbie said that former Radipole Primary School pupil Perrie, 18, was taking it all in her stride.

She added: “The contestants have been recording their charity single and visited a children’s hospital to film pieces.

“When Perrie came home she was distraught after seeing some children who aren’t going to live beyond 12.

“She said to me ‘there’s more important things than the name of the band’.

Members of the he band formerly known as Rhythmix will be performing under their new name on ITV1, tomorrow at 8pm.
