COMEDIAN Adrian Edmondson has been checking out the secrets of growing watercress at a Dorset farm.

The Young Ones and Bottom star visited the Watercress Company at Waddock Cross to find out more about the process of growing cress for his series Ade in Britain, which explores the best of British produce.

His visit will feature on today’s episode on ITV1 at 4pm.

Mr Edmondson interviewed 83-year-old watercress grower Bill Jesty, before being shown around the company’s headquarters by his son Tim Jesty.

Tim, whose family have been in the business for four generations, said: “He was interested because it’s such a unique crop and there are very few of us that grow watercress in this country.

“It was a good day.

“He watched the different processes that we do and then got involved in the planting and harvesting of the cress.

“He was quite interested in the history of it.”

Mr Edmondson’s visit will be the second time the Watercress Company at Waddock Cross has featured on national television this year after it was featured on the BBC’s Countryfile in January.

Mr Jesty said: “There has been a lot of interest in watercress over the last few years with television chefs promoting it and all that sort of thing helps.”
