A DORCHESTER parent and toddler group could be facing closure if it cannot find new members.

The Parents and Toddler group at St George’s Church, Fordington has been running for several years but in September their numbers started to decrease as children went to pre-school and reception classes.

The group is run every Friday from 1.30pm to 3.15pm by church volunteers and parents and they want to encourage more people to join them for a fun afternoon.

One of the group volunteers Glenys Edwards said: “It’s a nice, friendly little group.

“It’s a chance to get out and about. Some mums and dads say they like to bring the children out to see new places and meet other children.”

The volunteers from St George’s Church and St Peter’s Church on High West Street work on a rota basis with the parents to hold the group.

The group have use of a big hall and have lots of toys and colouring materials for the children.

At the moment the group are busy sticking spots on Dalmatians to hang on their themed Christmas tree.

Mrs Edwards said the group used to have about 14 members but that since September they have only had a couple of toddlers.

She said: “If we don’t have people to help us we may not have enough people to run it.”

She added: “We really want to encourage other mums and dads, grandmas and grandpas to come along and get the numbers back up again.”

The group costs 60 pence per family and this includes squash and a biscuit for the children and tea and coffee for the adults.
