AWARD-WINNING gospel music comes to Weymouth this month as a warm-up to the impending festive season.

The London Community Gospel Choir, which was founded in 1982, is one of the most highly sought-after gospel choirs in the world.

Bazil Meade, the founder of the world-famous choir, has led the choir for 29 years and set the benchmark in the 80s to become one of the most revered gospel leaders in the United Kingdom and Europe.

With the recent success of the recent hit reality TV show the BBC’s Last Choir Standing, singing has grown in popularity over recent months.

The vibrant group of singers gives concerts that are full of uplifting songs and spirituals.

Join them for an uplifting evening of gospel greats including Oh Happy Day, His Eye is on the Sparrow, Amazing Grace, Hallelujah, songs from the movie Sister Act and many more.

Over the years, the choir has also performed with some of the biggest names in the world of rock and pop.

They recorded a version of the OutKast hit Hey Ya! with Razorlight, appeared on Will Young’s debut album and sang on Blur’s hit Tender. The choir has also recorded with Paul McCartney, Elton John, Westlife, Elkie Brooks, Tori Amos and Madonna, who they joined on-stage at Live 8 for a performance of her hit Like a Prayer.

Bazil added: “Fasten your seat belts Weymouth. You’re in for a foot stomping, hand clapping, good time.”

The concert at Weymouth Pavilion is on December 30 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £17.50 plus concessions from the box office on 01305 783225.
