BUSINESSES are being urged to start making plans now for possible restrictions to roads, parking and deliveries from July 27 to August 12, 2012.

Free help is being offered by London 2012 officials and local authorities in order to keep businesses running smoothly and to ensure a successful home Games.

Jon Foley, of the London 2012 travel demand management team, said they hoped to encourage local businesses to start thinking about some of the transport challenges associated with the sailing events and the way their businesses operate.

Businesses are urged to ‘reduce, retime, remode and reroute’ – to look at and identify how they operate differently, to overcome the expected challenges by talking to their suppliers about delivering goods and services during less busy times and encouraging their staff to walk or cycle to work.

Chris Hook, of the ODA, said they were currently working with around 20 large businesses, which employ 3,000 people, and urged other local companies to make use of the free tools available.

He said Fish ‘n’ Fritz in Weymouth was now getting its deliveries at night as a result of reassessing its business operations.
