I WISH to add my voice to the list of people affected by the backlog of patients waiting for painkilling injections to stress my distress at the unacceptable delay.

I had my last injection administered at Weymouth on May 31 when he reiterated that I required these injections every four months to control my pain. I was confident that I would be able to have another injection before Christmas to get me and my family through the festive season – it’s not just the patient who suffers when they are in pain.

I phoned several times to try to arrange a repeat appointment to no avail.

Today I was told there was no chance of either a consultation or a repeat injection this year.

I co-operated with filling in the ‘pain diary survey’ earlier this year but it is difficult to quantify pain when it is constant.

In the Dorset Echo on November 1, divisional manager for surgery, Claire Damen, was quoted as saying back in August that she ‘was confident that the target of clearing the backlog by October would be acheived’.

I am desperate for an injection and implore the powers-that-be to look again at this appallingly unacceptable situation.
