THE theft of the safety rails at Newton’s Cove (Echo, November 17) happened months ago.

Given that it can be dismantled with a piece of kit you can purchase from any cycle shop, for less than a tenner, the only surprising thing is that there are any rails left at all.

Before every toerag in Weymouth rushes down to get one, perhaps DCC could prioritise thief proofing the remainder of this much used amenity.

Hopefully the current epidemic of metal thefts will impinge on the brains of those currently constructing the new Rodwell Trail bridge over Newstead Road.

We would not want this to vanish two nights before the opening ceremony of the Games would we?
