ALL true Weymouthians should support their home town.
I try to do as much of my shopping as I can in Weymouth. I am generally able to purchase items more cheaply than in Dorchester.
When I visited Dorchester recently, not for shopping, I took the opportunity to compare prices with what I had paid in Weymouth.
With regard to parking I agree it is expensive, but more publicity needs to be given to the park and ride service from Mount Pleasant.
For £1.50 all of a car’s passengers can travel to the rear of Marks and Spencer and return. Buses run every 15 minutes and you can park for the whole day. I fail to understand how a recent letter-writer could not find somewhere to park unless he was looking for a free bay.
However, maintenance in the town centre needs attention.
Seats are shabby and need a varnish, there are broken-off trees and tree guard without a tree in Frederick Place, and pedestrian signs and bollards need painting. Could we have a hanging basket scheme for the shopping streets, paid for by sponsorship or some of the Olympic funds we are supposed to have been given?
