A POUNDBURY care home held a day of celebrations to mark its 10th birthday.

Residents of Castle View care home in Bridport Road were joined by their relatives and supporters of the home over the last ten years for a special anniversary buffet lunch.

Guests included Mayor of Dorchester Tess James and director of fundraising from the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust Caroline Nickinson.

The residents also spread the joy by presenting Mrs Nickinson with a cheque for £771 raised for Weldmar through fundraising activities like raffles and a quiz.

Care home manager Sarah Harper said: “The residents have supported the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust ever since the home opened and we have probably raised in excess of £10,000 for them.”

In the afternoon there was a special cake cutting ceremony to mark the home’s ten years before more friends of the home and supporters came up in the evening.

Mrs Harper said: “They have had a really good day and it was really good to see past staff, some of whom had retired and came back to see us all, as well as the friends who have visited us in the past and came back as well.”

Castle View will now be planning its next big celebration as it looks to celebrate the 105th birthday of resident Christina Ungaretti.

Mrs Harper, who was a nurse at the home when it opened ten years ago and has worked there ever since, said: “There are always lots of different things going on in the home and we are looking forward to a really good future.

“It’s been a lovely ten years since it’s opened and it’s a lovely place to live and a lovely place to work.”
