I write with regard to the article about complaints over the noise of a cockerel (Echo, February 17.
I do not live in the village of Sutton Poyntz so have not had the opportunity to sign the petition but I do live on the edge of Preston, in the road next to Puddledock Lane and with my garden overlooking the village.
I often hear a cockerel crowing in the morning and I now assume it most likely belongs to Simon Grant-Jones. I would like to add my support to allowing him to keep his cockerel. I love hearing the noise of it crowing first thing in the morning. It actually makes me feel like I am living right in the middle of the country instead of on the edge of a town. The noise of the cockerel, combined with the sounds of the birds, the donkeys, the ducks and geese and sometimes the sheep in the fields, is one of the best things about living here and I love it. As other supporters have commented, if people choose to live in villages that edge the countryside they should be fully aware of what this entails. You never hear of country folk moving to the city and complaining about the noise of the traffic do you?
