WORLD Book Day is taking place today and schools and book shops across the county will be celebrating the event.

At St Nicholas and St Laurence Primary School in Broadwey, Weymouth, children are dressing up as their favourite book characters and taking part in fun activities.

Waterstones book shop in Dorchester will also be marking the special day with events.

Now in its 15th year, World Book Day is celebrated in more than 100 countries.

The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading.

All registered schools receive packs of Book Tokens and age-ranged World Book Day Resource Packs. Find out more at worldbookday.com
