TWO entrepreneurial eight-year-olds are holding a series of charity events to raise £300 for Sport Relief.

Schoolboys William Hyde and Kaleb Thorne, who have been drumming up support from businesses around the resort, cycled 10 miles last Saturday to encourage the first batch of sponsorship.

The pupils from Holy Trinity Primary School have impressed their parents by coming up with a list of fundraising initiatives and following them through.

The youngsters successfully approached Morrisons supermarket for prizes so they could hold ‘guess the number of sweets’ and ‘name the teddy’ competitions at their school.

Last Saturday they completed a bike ride from the Rodwell trail, near Ferrybridge to the Oasis café in Preston and back again.

Now they are gearing up for a cake sale and bric-a-brac stall with their mums on Mothering Sunday.

Proud mum Sarah Hyde said: “William and Kaleb are aiming to raise over £300 for Sports Relief.

“They’ve done it all themselves, we’re really proud of them.

“They had a gorgeous day for their 10-mile bike ride, the boys did well even though they both said they had sore legs.

“We were encouraging them, saying ‘Come on, you’re doing this for people less fortunate’ and they completed it.

“Kaleb’s mum Tahnee and William’s dad Dave held up a paper banner at the end so they had a proper finishing line to smash through.”

She added: “Morrisons very kindly donated a teddy and a very large box of smarties for ‘guess the number of sweets’ and ‘name the teddy’ competitions, held at Holy Trinity Primary School.

“I went with William to the supermarket but he did all the talking.

“The assistant manager Stuart Heaton came to see him and William presented him with a letter and asked if Morrisons could donate some sweets because he and Kaleb were doing a bike ride but also wanted to do something in school as well.

“Stuart was absolutely amazing, so positive and got everything ready for the boys to collect.

“The winners of the competitions will be revealed on Friday, March 23.”

This Sunday from 10am until 12pm, William and his mum will be selling slices of coffee and walnut and lemon drizzle cake outside Kaleb’s mum Tahnee’s hairdressers on Portland Road, Wyke Regis.

Kaleb and his mum will also have a stall selling children’s clothes, bric-a-brac and toys and a raffle at Tahnee’s Hairdressers will offer a prize of a basket of hair goodies.

Mrs Hyde encouraged local residents to support the youngsters and added: “This is all to raise money for Sports Relief, we hope everyone will turn out on Mother’s Day morning to buy their mums a special treat.”
