A SPECIALIST nurse who took on an epic non-stop gym session has raised more than £2,250 for a cancer charity.

Tracey Murray, of Radipole, Weymouth covered a distance of 161km on the gym equipment at The Hotel Rembrandt leisure centre.

The heart failure nurse specialist, who works at Dorset County Hospital, said the 7am to 7pm gym session was in memory of loved ones who had lost their lives to the devastating disease and a friend who is currently battling cancer.

Jelly babies and plenty of energy drinks got her through the 12-hour workout.

She said: “Murray’s Mission accomplished!

“I completed the 12-hour gym challenge, it was a fantastic day – I had loads of support from friends, family and other gym users coming in all throughout the day.

“I did 161km – 100 miles – which is the equivalent distance of travelling from Weymouth to Newport in Wales.

“So far we have raised £2,250 combined total from the just giving website and cash donations and there is still more to come in.

“It really has been a fantastic team effort with family, friends, work colleagues, Rembrandt leisure staff and gym members helping to raise sponsorship.”

Tracey, who has been a member of the Rembrandt gym for around eight years, said she was a fitness fanatic but that this was her longest gym session so far.

She added: “Cancer Research UK is a charity close to my heart, having lost my mum, sister and brother-in-law to cancer.”
