THERE is no justification for so many, and so much pay for the administrators and managers at county hall while those who actually work with the public providing services are stuck on low pay and suffering jobs losses.

How many of these ‘gravy train’ jobs are being cut to save money?

I remember the issue of high salaries being reported three years ago but the extent and detail was not forthcoming from the county council at the time.

In the current economic environment perhaps it would be in the public’s interest to publish the money each councillor receives.

This would be not just from their basic allowance but all the various additional allowances they receive as chairmen of committees, allowance from all other councils and public appointments.

I expect we will get the reply that the council only has details of its own payments – or maybe the truth is the public will see how much in total is being spent on them and which political parties they represent.

The problem is there is no political opposition at county hall, just a cosy existence for the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.
