VOLUNTEERS are needed to join a friendly team that produces audio news for blind and partially-sighted people.

Help is required on Wednesday mornings, a couple of hours each month at the South West Dorset Talking Newspaper (SWDTN), which runs from Portland Town Council offices.

Supporters are also being invited to attend a fundraising coffee morning at St Mary’s Church, St Mary Street, Weymouth on March 24 at 10am.

Spokesman Eleanor Smith said: “Please, come along and support us, by buying a coffee, tea or cake, there will be a bric- a-brac stall as well.

“The weekly newspaper is completely free of charge for any person who is blind, or has visual impairment, which hopefully keeps them up-to-date with local news and entertained by the magazine.”

She added: “We have a great team working together to manage this.

“But we really need some help on Wednesday mornings, when we record and copy the newspaper onto CDs and memory sticks. Volunteers are also needed to help with admin.

“Please come along and speak to us on March 24 at St Mary’s Church, or call the chairman Ann Sawtell on 01305 782602.”
