I REFER to the letter from Doug Milne, ‘Obvious Why Isle Isn’t Being Used’ (Have Your Say, March 6).

How dare he call the Island and Royal Manor of Portland drab.

Portland has been, and continues to be, referred to as ‘The Jewel in the Jurassic Coast’.

If the Isle is so drab then why did Weymouth insist on calling the Sailing Academy, The Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy?

Mr Milne also asked why would Condor Ferries want to use the berths at Portland?

Portland Port is a thriving business centre and sees so many commercial vessels berthing, bunkering and off-loading goods.

Had there been a link span for Condor to use at Portland Port they would have most likely utilised it and saved passengers bound for Poole approximately 65 miles in a round trip.

There is a company already expressing serious interest in using the port for a new fast ferry terminal, so it can’t be that bad.

For me and many other thousands of people, Portland is an Island with character and history.

Mr Milne you can keep your traffic lights, roadworks, road closures, fairy lights and tower, Portland is and always will be The Jewel in the Jurassic Coast.
