RESIDENTS in Weymouth and Portland are being urged to ensure they are registered to vote in this year’s elections.

Voters will go to the polls on May 3 to decide who they wish to represent them on Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.

Residents who want to vote at this year’s election need to be on the Electoral Register by 5pm on Wednesday, April 18.

Seats in the Tophill East, Upwey and Broadway and Wey Valley wards will not be up for election this year as the council phases its elections over different years.

Coun Mike Goodman, who is briefholder for corporate affairs and continuous improvement at Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, said: “Elections play a crucial role in the shaping of your local council.

“It is important that people who wish to take part and vote register by the closing date.”

Voters who are away on holiday or unable to get to the polling station on May 3 can apply to vote by post.

Application forms to vote by post are available by calling 01305 838299.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday April 18.
