DANCE-loving pupils took to the stage to raise money to help other children.

From modern to street dance, pupils and staff at All Saints School in Weymouth enjoyed taking part in a charity dance night to collect funds for their partner school in Bimbilla, Ghana and the charity Save the Children.

A total of 15 acts took part in the All Saint’s Shakes It competition which included a staff dance.

Organiser and PE teacher Stacey Pearson said: “There was a very high standard of dance in the competition and I am very pleased that the school came together to support these causes. The dancers and spectators all had a fantastic evening of entertainment.

“Altogether we managed to raise £300.

“This money will make a difference to people’s lives and I am pleased everyone at the school worked together to make it such a smooth event.”

All Saints School, on Sunnyside Road, is one of a few schools in the country who have links with a school in Africa.

A judging panel consisted of two members of staff, Kate Strosser from fitness centre Curves in Weymouth, Sam Chalmers and Richard Smith, two local street dancers who work for dance company PureFunk and student judge Emma Powell.

Assistant headteacher Ange Wright said: “The panel had a very difficult decision on their hands because the standard of dance was so high, many of the pupils being part of local dance schools.

“First place went to Jake Stroud, Charlotte Allen came second and Chloe May and Stephanie Wright came in third.”
