A RESIDENTS’ association is reforming to fight plans for a housing development in Bridport.

The King Charles Residents’ Association is holding its first meeting tomorrow after lying dormant for a number of years.

It comes as opposition grows to proposals for 60 homes outside of current development boundaries in the Happy Island Way area.

The meeting is at 5pm at the Christian Fellowship Hall in Kings Square, in the East Street Car Park.

Margie Savory, who lives in Jessopp Avenue, said: “It may seem that this is just NIMBYism.

“But actually it’s not against building houses for people who live locally and really need them.

“It’s about not building houses to be bought as second homes or by incomers, on an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty greenfield site.”

All people living in the King Charles estate that includes Happy Island Way, Willow Way, Norman Close, Stuart Way, Gladstone Close, King Charles Way, Swallows Corner and the top of Lee Lane are invited to attend the meeting.

As well as addressing the issue of building on the field, the group plans to support local people’s interests.

For example, the local environment, and how best to protect it for kingfishers, otters, butterflies and wildlife in the area.
