A BIG-HEARTED gesture accompanied the golden wedding celebrations of Dorchester couple Alan and Janet Cousins.

As they celebrated 50 years together, Alan and Janet asked for guests attending their party to donate to the British Heart Foundation’ The couple, both aged 70, decided to forego the usual gifts and asked for donations to the heart charity after Janet’s brother had been in hospital and needed ta heart operation.

The generosity of the 140 friends and family members who attended the celebrations at the Trinity Club meant that they were able to hand over a cheque for £617 to BHF Dorchester manager Mandy Edwards.

Alan said: “At our age we don’t want presents and Janet’s brother has been in hospital and had a couple of heart operations so we thought we would do it for them.

“We had some really good donations and we are very pleased.”

Alan and Janet first met when he lived in Winterborne Whitechurch and she lived in Milborne St Andrew and he used to give her a lift to work as they both worked in the Dorchester area.
