HOLLY Butt came away from the Olympic Stadium with a silver medal after representing the West of England at the UK School Games.

The Colfox student took part in the 4x100m relay and was just overjoyed to have the opportunity to run on the track that will be the focal point for this summer’s Games.

Butt said: “Going to the UK School Games was such an amazing experience.

“Getting the opportunity to run in the Olympic Stadium and on the track where many famous athletes will run in the 2012 Olympics this year was just incredible.

“Walking onto the track just left me speechless.”

The event lasted four days and Butt enjoyed every minute of it. She added: “During my time there I got to know so many new friends and met some successful famous athletes that gave me lots of motivation to want to go on and do well.

“I got to experience many new sports at the Olympic village and I also got to watch other athletes compete in their sports.

“The atmosphere was just incredible.

“I feel so privileged that I was one of the lucky few that got chosen to take part in such a big event.”

Butt qualified for the event through her impressive 100m performances over the past two seasons.

She said: “I was over the moon when I found out I got selected.

“I got selected based on my times this season and last season, and being one of the best in the UK for the 100m.

“To be honest it was one of the best experiences of my life, and I would love to be able to get the chance to do it all over again.

“Just the people around me and the atmosphere were amazing.

“My next goal is to win the English Schools and make it into the GB squad and compete at the European Youth Olympics and Commonwealth Games but I already know that I have made my parents proud.

“If it wasn’t for them and my coach I couldn’t have come as far as I have now, so I thank them so very much for everything they have done for me, and I hope I can keep on making them proud.”
