LOCAL manufacturing will come under the spotlight at an event to highlight opportunities for businesses in south Dorset.

The manufacturing event, Sustainable Business from the Sustainability Sector, will be held at Budmouth College’s Centre for Industrial Excellence on Tuesday, June 19.

The morning, which is organised by the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce, will be the first of a series of manufacturing events that have been set up to help grow existing businesses.

Chamber president Anna-Maria Geare said: “The Chamber believes that manufacturing is at the heart of the recovery of our fragile economy and we are therefore hosting this first event at Budmouth to pull together manufacturers and key businesses.”

The event is sponsored by Lloyds TSB Commercial.

Its theme is ‘the sustainable economy and the green sector’.

Speaking at the event are Johnny Gowdy, programme director of Regen South West, Ian McQuade, general manager (Commercial) at Portland Port, Greg Roberts environmental specialist at the Engineers Employers Federation, Mike Bilson relationship director of manufacturing at Lloyds TSB Commercial and Gareth Jones, economic development officer at West Dorset District Council and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.

Cost to chamber members is free. There is a £10 charge for non-members.
