A MAN was found in possession of stolen computer equipment minutes after a break-in at a Weymouth school, a court was told.
David Kelly, of Howard Close, Weymouth, pleaded not guilty to burglary when he appeared before Dorchester Crown Court.
The 35-year-old is charged with entering All Saints School, in Sunnyside Road, as a trespasser between July 20 and July 23 last year and stealing computer equipment and a television. Prosecutor Carolyn Branford-Wood told the jury in his trial that at around 2.30am on July 23 a set of double doors leading into the IT department were forced open and computer equipment and a television were stolen.
Mrs Branford-Wood said: “Police officers drove along Hillbourne Road and the defendant was seen on a bicycle coming from an alleyway leading from the playing fields.
“They discovered Kelly was carrying a computer and monitor and he was arrested and searched.”
When searched by police the defendant was found to have a pair of pliers and a torch, she said.
Kelly claims he had been cycling home when a family member handed him the computer.
The trial continues.
