POLICE have warned of a scam in which victims are told they have an outstanding bill that must be paid within 24 hours.
The letter from a recovery company provides a telephone number for the victim to call. When they dial the number, the victim is asked to provide bank account details over the phone or to go to deposit a sum of money in to a specific bank account.
Dorset Police are urging members of the public to be vigilant and not to provide bank details or cash to any organisation they suspect may be fraudulent.
If you believe you have been the victim of a scam, contact police on 101 or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
