WEYMOUTH youngster Max Price has returned home after a short stay in hospital.

The battling four-year-old from Weymouth, who suffers from chronic renal failure, left Southampton hospital on Saturday after being kept in overnight.

Concerned staff at Allsorts Beechcroft Pre-School, where Max attends two days a week, raised the alarm on Friday when the youngster was found to have a temperature.

Mum Michelle immediately took him to Southampton hospital, where Max and his family travel three times a week for dialysis, for staff to find he was allergic to an element of his treatment.

It has been more than four months since Max’s failed kidney transplant and his family remain hopeful he will soon be put back on the donor register.

Mrs Price said: “We are so happy Max is home we were really worried. It turns out he was allergic to something in his dialysis. It has been changed now but we always have to make sure just in case. It is always just in case with Max – we have to be so careful. We are just glad that he will hopefully be back on the donor register to look for another transplant.

“He will be back on the register in around six to eight weeks as long as his body has recovered. That is why we have had to wait for more than four months because the body needs to recover.

“He is still smiling and has come home full of energy after being cooped up in hospital.”

Max stayed in hospital with his dad Shaun but the medical team were happy for him to come home.

Mrs Price added: “We have to take Max three times a week to Southampton and he is set to start primary school in September.

“If he hasn’t found a donor by then he will be set to miss three days a week of school, which is very worrying.”

Paul Allington, Max’s granddad, said: “We are so glad Max is home and we are all hoping he soon finds a donor and it will be a success.

“As long as his body is ready after the recovery period, Max will be one step closer to finding a donor.”

Staff and regular visitors to the White Hart Pub in Weymouth will host a fundraiser on Saturday with half of the funds going to the youngster and his family.

A sponsored head shave will take centre stage.

It will be held at the Lower Bond Street pub from 7.30pm.
