TV STAR Trevor Peacock says Weymouth is one of the best places in the world.

The 81-year-old actor who played Jim Trott in The Vicar of Dibley paid a visit to Pilgrim House on Hope Square which has been opened to visiting Rotarians for the period of the Sailing events.

As patron of the Pilgrim House Trust, Mr Peacock was invited to lunch by President Mike Parker of the Rotary Club of Weymouth.

Close links between the Trust, which aims to care and support older people living in the borough, and the rotary club has seen scores of people pop-in for refreshments.

Mr Peacock said: “Weymouth is truly one of the best places in the world. The last time I came to Pilgrim House was to open it four years ago and it is truly marvellous.

“There is a great atmosphere here and everyone that has come in today has made me feel really welcome.”

Weymouth band Replay were also on hand to provide music from the 50s and 60s to the regular elderly visitors and Rotarian guests.

President Mike Parker said: “We decided to open Pilgrim House to act as a drop-in for people. We’ve been planning this for almost a year so we’re ready to welcome people.”
