THE husband of a woman with a little-known brain condition is going to great heights to raise awareness of a Dorchester -based charity.

Scott Legg is doing a sponsored skydive on Saturday, September 29, to raise money for and to promote Cavernoma Alliance UK.

Scott’s wife Georgina was diagnosed with a Cavernoma back in 2004 and is one of many people to benefit from the work of the charity set up by county town resident Dr Ian Stuart back in 2005.

As a way of thanking Ian for all his work and raising awareness both of the condition and the charity, 22-year-old Scott will be jumping from a plane over Salisbury Plain in a bid to attract sponsorship.

He said: “We just wanted to raise some money and raise awareness about it.

“I’ve never done it before and only ever been in a plane once but I’m looking forward to it.”

Scott, from Sturminster Marshall, was inspired to do the skydive by another member of the Cavernoma Alliance UK, who lives in Cambridge.

He and Georgina set an initial fundraising target of £1,000 but they have already reached that and are hoping to keep the sponsorship rolling in.

Georgina and her little boy Alfie are hoping to be among a team of supporters who will be there to cheer Scott on when he takes to the skies.

She said: “I have good and bad days but fingers crossed I will be there – there are quite a lot of people coming to watch.”

Ian, who was himself diagnosed with a Cavernoma more than 20 years ago, said he was delighted Scott had chosen to take on the challenge in aid of his charity and it showed how much people valued the support provided by Cavernoma Alliance UK.

He said: “We have 500 members now and I hope that with the increased awareness more people come out of the woodwork, so to speak.”

Scott said: “We all appreciate what Ian does and he doesn’t get a big enough thanks.”
