A man has been banned from entering almost every pub in his home town.

Daniel Lewis Carey was given an antisocial behaviour order (ASBO), to run for two years following convictions for assault.

The 27-year-old, from Bridport, must not: l Threaten anyone with words or behaviour, or threaten anyone with violence.

  • Be drunk or under the influence of drugs in any public place.
  • Consume intoxicating liquor in any public place, save for licensed premises.
  • Enter any premises from which he has been banned. This includes all 29 current member premises of the Bridport Pubwatch scheme.

Mr Carey admitted three counts of assault by beating in Bridport at Weymouth Magistrates Court in June.

He was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison for each offence, the sentences to run concurrently.

Mr Carey also admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress. No separate penalty was given.

The ASBO runs until June 12, 2014.

Bridport PC Scott McGregor said: “I am extremely pleased with the result in court.

“I applied for this ASBO with the sole purpose to protect residents and public of Dorset from Carey and his unacceptable behaviour.

“The court agreed with the application and the necessity to protect the public.”

Mr Carey’s photograph has been distributed to all Pubwatch members and police say that they will be monitoring the situation carefully.

Bridport Neighbourhood Inspector Mike Darby said that although the action in seeking the ASBO was drastic, it was necessary.

“The making of this order is good news not just for the police, but for the residents of Bridport.

“These are drastic measures but drastic measures were required in preventing this person disrupting the everyday lives of people in Bridport.

“We will strongly police this ASBO and deal with any breaches stringently.”

The police want any member of the public who sees Mr Carey breaking any of the conditions to contact them on 101.
