SCHOOLS across Dorset are being urged to join in a world record attempt at signing and singing.

The SignHealth charity for deaf people wants pupils to join in its bid for the most people signing and singing a song at the same time.

Earlier this year 114,227 youngsters took part in sign2sing 2012 and smashed the Guinness World Record.

The previous record, which SignHealth also set, was 94,489.

Now the charity wants to make it three records in a row.

Rowena Dean, head of marketing and communications at SignHealth, said: “Six-hundred-and-ninety hearing and deaf schools have already signed up for sign2sing, which takes place next February.

“We’re hoping more than 1,000 will take part, so we’re on a mission to register more schools in the next few months.

“The 1,000th school to sign up will win Sign with Olli classroom resources and it could be one in the area.

“So we’re hoping Bridport teachers get involved to be in with a chance to receive the prizes.”
