DESPITE the recent cold easterly winds members of the Weymouth and Portland Cruising Association continue to get out on the water and this week saw the first of the monthly day sails which are popular with those not wanting to cruise too far with Lulworth Cove being the destination.
The next long distance cruise will be this weekend to the Cherbourg Peninsula, when boats will spend a week cruising the area and enjoying French food and wine.
Meanwhile two members of the WPCA, Martin Figg and Kate Harley, have ventured further afield and are currently crewing the yacht, Narwhal, beyond the Arctic Circle to Bodo.
They left Britain from Orkney and after a long sailing leg of 270 miles they arrived in Alesund, Norway, before they made another long sail to Kristiansund, Norway, for a welcome break before continuing to the Arctic Circle.
In a warmer climate, Yvonne and Barry Gasson have returned to the Greek Islands to be reunited with their boat Saracen which has been laid up there for the winter.
