Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) is now recruiting for its upcoming Prince’s Trust Achieve programme.

Working in partnership with the Prince’s Trust, this four week course will be delivered digitally for young people aged 16-25 who are not in education, employment or training.

The programme involves a mixture of group activity sessions via video calls to encourage the participants to get to know each other and build their confidence, as well as completing tasks set by staff for learners to complete independently.

The young people are then supported to complete work that will lead to the Prince’s Trust Personal Development and Employability Skills Award.

Rob Guy, Youth Intervention Manager at DWFRS, said: “We delivered our first ever online Prince’s Trust Achieve course earlier in the year and, despite our worries about how successful it would be, it was well-attended and achieved some great outcomes.

"The feedback we received from the group that took part was very positive, so we are delivering another course in July.”

Perry, who has moved into employment since completing the previous course in April, said: “Before I signed up, I wasn’t really doing much, but taking part allowed me a route to self-improvement and for that I’m very grateful. My favourite elements were the engaging activities, which inspired my creativity, and when guests came online to explain their career backgrounds.”

Topics being delivered over the four weeks include a personal project, preparing for a healthy lifestyle, interpersonal and self-management skills and some teambuilding activities, along with career planning sessions so learners can think about their next steps.

The course will run five days a week, primarily 10am to 1pm each day, starting on Monday July 5 and finishing on Friday, July 30. Applicants are welcome from Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole; Dorset; and South Wiltshire.
