WEST Dorset school pupils were praised for their work helping to get elderly people online.

Students from Beaminster School helped to teach elderly people about laptops, computers and tablets at a recent silver surfers’ taster day, organised by Magna Housing Association and the Dorset Partnership for Older People Project (POPP).

Activities included basic computer skills for internet use, using Google to find things on the internet, access to music, films, TV and radio online, online shopping, personal security and safety awareness, where to access the internet and access to further information and training.

They were awarded certificates at a recent awards evening to mark their success.

Dominic Knorpel, POPP’s community leader for the Beaminster and Loders area, said: “I thought these pupils from Beaminster School were a credit to themselves, their families, their school and their generation.

“Anything that can be done to promote interaction, understanding and solidarity between these generations is of great value.”
