DORCHESTER students took part in a flower festival.
Every seven years a Festival of Flowers takes place in the ancient church of St Giles in Sidbury, Devon.
This year’s festival theme was entitled ‘1914 – A Hundred Years On’, bringing together all parts of the local community to celebrate in floral art.
For the event, Kingston Maurward College’s level three floristry students, pictured below, designed and researched royal wedding bouquets through the past 100 years, which included designing and constructing replica bridal designs ranging from those of Queen Elizabeth through to Kate Middleton.
The students also created pedestals and historical garlands to celebrate royal weddings of the past. The festival raises funds for church, and provides donations for Royal British Legion and Sidbury Church of England Primary School.
Floristry student Kate Woolley said: “The flower festival was an excellent opportunity for us to work in a different location, deciding how to display our floral work in the church, while working with the local flower ladies and seeing their work alongside ours. It was a fantastic transformation of the church.”
