BUILDING apprentices from Weymouth are representing the South West region in the national final of Britain's biggest skills competition -- SkillBuild - from October 1 to 3.
Philip Baker and Nathan Smith are building apprentices with Weymouth College and will be attending Leeds College of Building to compete for the title Britain's Building Idol.
Philip and Nathan will be competing to win the Stonemasonry section, one of the 11 trades that form the SkillBuild competition.
If they win the section at the final, they could have the chance to represent the UK at WorldSkills, the Skills Olympics, which takes place every two years.
ConstructionSkills, which is the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry, has taken over management of SkillBuild this year.
It wants to encourage more young people to consider training for a career in construction, and to boost the skills of those already in training.
