HERE'S another big event which took place in Weymouth more than 100 years ago.
St Paul's Church annual fete was held on Wednesday June 24 1908 in a field adjoining Westdowne, Chickerell Road.
The event had many attractions including a grand masquerade procession, open-air concerts, novel and interesting sideshows and shooting gallery.
If you look hard enough you can see that the procession includes a cow and a lamb, both of which appear unconcerned by the activities going on around them.
The Southern Times reported that the sun shone and 'in the dancing ring a gay crowd of Terpsichoreans(dancers) tripped it lightly over the greensward and made merry with the last hours which remained of a memorable and pleasant day."
Thanks to Andy Hutchings for supplying the image - and helping us to think about summer in these dark days!
