Let's cast our minds back to 11 years ago tomorrow - to June 27, 2007 when Gordon Brown became Prime Minister.

Tony Blair's chancellor took over from Blair, following his resignation after being in the post for ten years.

Brown was expected to reshuffle the cabinet soon after and promised to address new priorities for the country.

After a few weeks in the job, PM Brown took a summer break in Dorset and was photographed at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy on the first day of his summer break on August 4, 2007.

Mr Brown explained why he chose Dorset for a family holiday this year.

He said: "I have been holidaying in different parts of Britain for the last four years.

"This is the best place in the world to be, especially with young children.

"Look at the weather and the enthusiasm of people.

"I am looking forward to spending some time around here, getting a rest and meeting with friends."

After arriving in Weymouth by train, the leader was taken to the sailing academy where he discussed the progress of 2012 Olympic preparations with organising committee chairman Lord Coe and Royal Yachting Association members.

Unfortunately the break didn't prove too relaxing for Mr Brown, who had to return to London after a new foot and mouth outbreak.

On May 10, 2010, Gordon Brown announced his resignation as leader of the Labour party after losing the General Election.
