Find out more about Viking and Saxon history with re-enactment days at Milton Abbey this weekend.

A Living History Re-enactment Weekend will be held at Milton Abbey in Milton Abbas, between Dorchester and Blandford, on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

Visitors should look out for wolves and even a raven as the story of King Athelstan, who re-united mainland Britain, is explored.

They can sample a slice of history, with displays by the re-enactment group Hildsvin, see Viking and Saxon artefacts, weapons and armour displays plus replicas of archaeological finds like the Jorvik helmet, Sutton Hoo helmet and a Vendal Helmet from Sweden.

People will be able to walk into a living history village including a working kitchen set-up displaying Saxon foodstuffs with working fire pit; an apiary display (without bees) with a skep (domed basket) as well as candle and wax production; various soft crafts, such as tablet weaving and embroidery; a Lord's tent and a green-wood working set-up, with shave horse and pole lathe.

A free summer exhibition on the Anglo-Saxons and King Athelstan, which runs until August 31, can also be viewed.
