Here's a picture from Weymouth's annual civic service in May 1964.
The procession went from St. Mary’s Church to the Guildhall and was led by the mayor, Councillor Florence Kenyon.
She is accompanied by her Chaplain, Canon Maurice Garner, Rector of St. Mary’s.
Behind them is E.J. Jones, who served as Town Clerk from 1956 and retired as chief executive of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council in 1979, and Alderman Sidney Porter, who had served the previous year as mayor and was now serving as deputy mayor. Behind her are aldermen who had all previously served as mayor, Iseult Legh, Charlotte Wootton (the first woman to be elected as mayor in 1956), Edgar Wallis, Bill Fory and Wilfred Ward.
Thanks to Geoffrey Pritchard for the picture and memories.
