A LOOKING Back reader has got in touch to share this very interesting engraving with us.
The reader, who does not wish to be identified, said: "As the debate continues about the council’s ambitious development plans for the so-called Weymouth ‘peninsula’, readers may be interested in a photo of engravings of Weymouth dated 1871 which clearly show that this local feature was no more than a wooden pier for pedestrians to stroll along.
"What, I wonder, has taken place in the last 150 years to turn a wooden pier extending into the sea into a site capable of supporting substantial buildings?"
Thanks to Anon for this interesting Victorian image.
