THANKS to the Looking Back readers who quite rightly pointed out that the time period we were remembering a fortnight ago was when Weymouth Grammar School was based in Westham up until the 1970s, not at Chickerell Road where Budmouth College is today.

Of course, former pupil Bob, who shared his school memories so eloquently on September 18, attended the school when it was in Westham.

The girls' entrance was in Holland Road and the main entrance was at Alma Road.

Thanks to caller Mike Brown who informed us that the technical college was at Newstead Road opposite the cemetery and the sports playing fields were just off Newstead Road. We also appreciate reader Mrs Day getting in touch.

Mr Parsons took over as headmaster at the school from Colonel Linnet in 1951. Adam Welch was a senior master and Pam Price-Jones was a senior girls' teacher.

Johnny Boucher, the sports master, played rugby for Weymouth, Mike remembers.

Mr Brown said: "The first year of the grammar school I attended Connaught House off of Cross Road.

"I enjoyed parts of attending the school. The sports were good and I enjoyed going to camp in Cornwall as an army cadet.

"When we went down there we would go on a troop train from Weymouth. We would share it with the Royal Artillery first and second, third and fourth Dorsets."
