WE'RE getting closer to Remembrance Sunday when the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War will be remembered.

Over the past few weeks we've paid tribute to the men of Weymouth who gave their lives in the Great War.

And today we are completing our series of remembering these Weymouth men, all the soldiers from the area who perished from August 21, 1918 to the Armistice on November 11, 2018.

Thanks must go to historian Greg Schofield who has carried out the research to pay tribute to these men.

The First World War saw much trench warfare - soldiers living with rats, disease, lice and dead comrades. The conflict also saw the first use of poison gas - a development that horrified both soldiers and their loved ones. Tanks were used for the first time - first in the Battle of Flers and then in the Somme.
