IT'S not often you get to have a drink with a World Cup winner.

We were thrilled to see this photo of footballer Jack Charlton enjoying a drink in Weymouth pub the Star and Garter, just a few weeks before he held the World Cup aloft in 1966.

Jack, a defender, would often visit Weymouth as he remained friends with a former Leeds United colleague Bob Forrest.

Bob originally signed for Leeds in December 1952 and then after a successful career with Leeds joined Weymouth in July 1962 later going on to Dorchester town as player/manager until his

retirement in 1970.

In the picture is Graham Paul on the left, next to his brother Stan, Jack Charlton, who is now 83, and on the right is John Paul.

It was Graham who very kindly shared this picture with us.

He said: "Bob used to have a guest house in Weymouth and Jack would come and stay ay the guest house.

"I met Jack a couple of times because I knew Bob Forrest through another one of my brothers who isn't in that photo. I remember we were drinking in the back bar of the pub.

"A lot of the time Jack would come and see Bob once the football season had finished when he was playing for Leeds."

"I think Jack used to like to walk around town a bit and go on the beach."

Thanks to Graham for this wonderful picture.
