WE'VE recently had the sad news that there will be no Weymouth Carnival this summer.

However, there is fresh hope with Weymouth Rotary Club and the Weymouth BID looking to bring back the event in 2020.

With this in mind, it seems timely to share Barbara Hieatt's of herself and her younger sister in the Weymouth Carnival in 1952. Barbara, nee Price, dressed as Britannia and her sister Ann. The pair won second prize.

Barbara, who now lives in New Zealand, tells us: "I've been reading about the problems with Weymouth Carnival and I'm hoping it will survive. I have very fond memories of it as a kid and then on our first trip back to the UK in 1984 we were thrilled to be in Weymouth at carnival time."

In the 1952 carnival both Barbara and Ann were pulled along on a trolley by their father. Looking on in the crowd is their Nanny Davies, who can be seen holding a big pile of coats!

Thanks to Barbara for her carnival memories. Do get in touch if you'd like to share a carnival tale and picture.
