WE'VE looked at some strange phenomena in Looking Back over the years, but this one is new to us.
Some of you who enjoy walking along the Ridgeway between Weymouth and Dorchester will have noticed this group of long barrows.
The site is a scheduled monument and these ridges in the hillsides were used as burial sites in ancient times.
According to reports, at certain times these ridges can be heard making strange sounds, or ‘singing’. No good explanation for this has ever been given, but the phenomena has occurred enough for locals to have nicknamed the long barrows the ‘Singing Marys’!
Do get in touch with us if you've ever heard the singing.
