MEMORIES of Radio 1's popular summer roadshow stopping in Weymouth come to the fore with these photos courtesy of Karly Wills.

The beach was packed with music fans who turned out to see big name acts performing. It is believed these photos are of the 1989 summer roadshow, presented by DJ Simon Mayo.

Teen pop idols Bros can be seen in the second photo. Although Karly also has a picture of a young Kylie Minogue performing, it is thought that this photo was taken at the Exmouth or Lyme Regis shows, which the I Should Be So Lucky singer did attend.

Karly, of Weymouth, remembers: "My nan Yvonne Ablett actually stopped Simon Mayo coming along the seafront one year (she was a traffic warden and told to stop all traffic) - I think she took it a bit too far! It was a bit late starting that year!"

Many of you remember getting up early for the roadshow to secure your place at the front of the stage. Other memories include Tom Robinson of 2, 4, 6, 8 Motorway fame singing, a 'bits and pieces' quiz on the beach, Radio 1 holding a disco at Weymouth Pavilion, The Pasadenas performing and Mike Reid presenting and trying to wear Jumping Jimmy Thunders' crown. DJ Tony Blackburn was another famous face (and voice) who came to present the roadshow.
