FIND out more about this splendid archway under a railway.

A talk is being held on this bridge - Bridge 77 - popularly known as Lady Wimborne's Bridge on the Canford Manor estate. It takes place at the Dorset History Centre on Bridport Road, Dorchester, on Thursday, October 10 at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

This remarkable structure is a survivor of mid-19th century railway building in southern England.

Colin Divall, professor of railway studies at York University, is giving the talk. He was bought up near Wimborne within sight of the Southampton and Dorchester line north of Bournemouth and spent a good deal of his teenage years trespassing on what was left of the route once Dr. Beeching had cut the passenger trains. Colin had a brief career with British Rail and a rather longer one as a historian in various northern universities and the National Railway Museum.

Tickets cost £11 or £9 for members and include canapes and a glass of wine.
